Alexcia Scheinman  9/23/25 Op-Ed 3 The left wing and the right wing have one thing in common, the problems that they have in the country that they share.  Where is the common ground?  Politics are originated to gain and hold. These two words carry a lot of power in a government. Politics can influence and provide an outlet to make decisions. When voting for a president, the vote can remain anonymous if chosen to do so. The feeling of your opinion, remaining anonymous can make a decision easier, but can also cause for less thinking revolving around the decision. On the flip-side, your opinion on who you choose to vote for can be vocalized as loudly as you would like.  Civil liberties provides us with the stability and access to basic human rights and guaranteed freedom. Alexcia Scheinman  Checks and Balances  Corner stone, Choreographed, Constant remains of American democracy. In other words, an accurate describition of the format and system of checks and balances.  Checks and balances is deep rooted, mostly out of fear of concentrated power.  Checks and balances revolves around three branches of government, those being legislative, executive, and judicial. In hopes to prevent any one of them becoming more powerful than the other.  Checks and balances is a structure of the U.S government, the main main purpose being and should be protecting citizens rights and liberties. Each branch of government has certain factors that contribute to protecting and controlled right.  The legislative branch has the power to impeach, remove the current president in office of federal judges, pass certain laws, override presidential vetos, and control the budget. Alexcia Scheinman 9/1/25 Why the voting age should be 25 and NOT 18:  Following what you know, gaining control, clinging onto the familiar, and often straying from the peculiar.   A few short words provided, that distinctly describe adolescence.    Parents have the impact to sway and children have the power, amongst a certain age to stray.   When teenagers stray, the information that has been collected from people they have been surrounded by still remains. This is overlooked when power given to teenagers is greater than their individual knowledge.  This is why I believe the voting age should be changed to 25.
